I am unable to create a CMS collection. I’m wondering if I messed up with the initial instance naming for the marquee. Wonder if that makes a difference? I did open a new blank site and was able to create one there but not on this site. Hope you can help fix this!

Since I wrote this, I’ve fully deleted the code block on the settings page and removed the marquee. Still can’t add a collection.
Hey @Joseph_Bates!
We checked your setup and the good news is that your Finsweet Marquee configuration looks totally correct!
You’ve got the right attributes in place (fs-marquee-type=“cms”, fs-marquee-element=“marquee”, and fs-marquee-instance=“fs-marquee-clients”), and the “No items found” message is actually expected behavior when the CMS collection that the marquee is set to pull from doesn’t exist yet or is empty.
Here’s the important part: The marquee instance naming cannot affect your ability to create CMS collections in Webflow.
Finsweet Components scripts only run on your published or preview site — they require JavaScript to function, and the Webflow Designer doesn’t execute JavaScript. This means our attributes and scripts have absolutely no impact on Webflow Designer functionality like creating CMS collections.
Since you were able to create a CMS collection on a blank site but not on this one, this points to a Webflow-native issue rather than anything Finsweet-related. Here are some things to check:
Check your Webflow plan’s CMS collection limits
Go to Project Settings → General in the Webflow Designer and verify your plan supports the number of CMS collections you’re trying to create. Starter plans have limits, CMS/Business plans allow more.
Check workspace permissions
Make sure your user role has permission to create CMS collections. You’ll need Admin or Designer access.
Try these troubleshooting steps:
- Open Webflow in an incognito window and try creating the collection
- Try a different browser
- Clear your browser cache and reload the Designer
Contact Webflow Support
If the above doesn’t help, reach out to Webflow support directly — they’ll be able to see your account details and CMS limits.
Once you get your CMS collection created in Webflow, the marquee you’ve already configured will automatically pull from it and display those items. Your setup is ready to go!
Let us know if you need any help connecting the collection to the marquee once it’s set up.
