Clarification re "unmatched data will be deleted by CMS Bridge"

Hi,

I manage a lot of data on many sites and have previously used Nobull - I am exploring CMS Bridge as a solution going forwards both for existing and new sites.

However I’m seeking some clarification regarding the slightly ambiguous statement that “unmatched data will be deleted by CMS Bridge”…

So does that mean that ALL fields within Webflow must be matched to a field in Airtable - ie could we leave out image fields so that these are solely managed within Webflow - or would the images be deleted when the item is synced from Airtable to Webflow? Does “unmatched data” mean both items and fields?

The documentation would suggest that once all items (perhaps not necessarily fields) are mirrored, that you can sync just the most recent modified items to Webflow - in this case, items in Webflow that are not matched to items in that sync (because there were no recent modifications to their corresponding item in Airtable) will not be deleted in Webflow - is this correct?

Many thanks in advance.

Hi @dominic!

Great question about CMS Bridge’s data handling.

You don’t need to map ALL fields between platforms. You can absolutely leave image fields (or any fields) unmapped to manage them solely in Webflow. Only the fields you explicitly connect in the CMS Bridge interface will be synchronized, while unmapped fields remain untouched on both platforms.

“Unmatched data” refers to items that exist on one platform but not the other during a full database sync - not individual unmapped fields.

Your understanding of incremental sync behavior is correct! When syncing “most recent modified items,” only items with recent modifications are included. Items in Webflow without corresponding recently-modified items in Airtable won’t be deleted. This differs from a full database sync that mirrors all data.

For your use case with multiple sites, we recommend:

  • Map only the fields you want synchronized
  • Use incremental syncs for ongoing updates
  • Always take backups before initial setup

This gives you flexibility to maintain some data exclusively in Webflow while keeping critical content synchronized.

Note that we strongly recommend that you test it with TEST Collection(s) just to make sure the sync works in the way you expect.

If you need help with the field mapping process or setting up your first connection, @Support-Luis or @Support-Pedro can assist you further.

Thank you for such a thorough reply and your help :+1: You guys are the best!
